So you stumbled upon a whisper or soft spoken video on YouTube and now you wonder what it is about? Or you get these mysterious whisper chills or tingles yourself and you love them so much you want to know everything there is to know?
Keep reading. The following 8 questions and answers will tell you everything you want to know about whispering, tingles and ASMR.
1. What Are Whisper Tingles?
Whisper tingles, or whisper chills or shivers, is the name of the tingling sensation that whispering can induce. The feeling is a bit like how it feels when someone gently strokes your head, neck and back. At least, that’s what it feels like to me. The tingles might help you feel relaxed or fall asleep.
2. What Is ASMR?
ASMR is a bit of a controversial topic. It stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response, but it isn’t an official medical or scientific term.

However, people in the whisper community on YouTube and elsewhere have adopted the term as a way to describe the whisper chills or tingles. Besides whispering there are many other triggers. Close attention for example, like watching someone who puts on make up. Or other sounds, like typing or scrolling through a magazine.
3. So Is There a Scientific Explanation?
Sure. These tingles clearly exist so there must be a reason. However, as far as I know these tingles have not yet been the subject of any scientific research.
Oh, and if you come across any research, please let me know below in the comment section! Thanks :)
4. What Is the Old Whisper Community?
Every know and then you’ll hear people long for the old whisper community. What is that about? Well, back in 2009 and 2010 the whispering community on YouTube was just getting started. There were only several dozens of whisperers and most of them listened to each others videos. This resulted in an intimate and close-knit society.
Clearly this has changed. Now there are hundreds of whisperers out there, if not more. For the most, this is a good thing. More whisperers means more to choose from and that’s definitely great. Also, now that the community is expanding, the phenomenon becomes more and more popular and widespread. And that’s a good thing for all the peeps out there who would enjoy these videos but don’t even know they exist yet.
There is a downside though. Nowadays it’s become impossible to know everyone. And that sort of ended the intimate place the whispering community used to be.
5. Who Are the Best Whisperers on YouTube?
I can’t tell. Seriously. Different people, different tastes. What makes me tick, might totally annoy you. And vice versa.
6. So How Do I Find the Best Whisperers Then?
Just start browsing YouTube. Search for terms like ‘whisper video’ or ‘soft spoken role play’ or ‘whisper + magazine’ or whatever rocks your boat. Then start listening. Trial and error. Don’t forget to subscribe to someone when you find their voice or ways mesmerizing. That’s what it’s all about!
7. Is ASMR a Sex Thing?
No. The whisper chills or tingles are a relaxing phenomenon. Loads of people use them to unwind or fall asleep. Now I don’t know how you like your sex, but I sure like to be aroused and awake instead of dozed off.

However, many people find whispering to be pretty sensual. The secrecy, the intimacy, yeah, I get it. It certainly can be erotic. And yes, there are whisperers out there who make sensual whisper videos. I’ve come across a couple of great ones, even though for me it’s a totally different thing.
8. How To Start Your Own Whisper Channel
Simply visit www.youtube.com, click ‘sign in’ and then click ‘create an account’ in the right corner. If you already have a Google account you can add YouTube. Now think of a sassy name and you’re done!
Oh, wait. You still need to record videos. Well, you don’t necessarily need expensive and fancy equipment. I record my videos with my iPhone or my old Canon Digital IXUS 80 IS. Afterwards I edit the video with Windows Live Movie Maker, which you probably already have on your computer if you use Windows.
So, now you know the basics of whispering and tingles. Do you still have questions? Just leave me a comment and I’ll make sure to respond.

I hear your video produces a very pleasant tingling. It is the tone of your voice, the clicks you do when speaking. I do not know how explicrlo. It seems to make with a pen caress
Science doesn’t have answers for yawning, goosebumps, and many other things. I highly doubt they’ll have any answers for the tingles anytime soon.
